Hi, I’m Katie — baker, recipe developer, and the hands behind Blue Mountain Baker. I’m so glad you found your way to my little cozy corner of the internet! This blog is where I share my love of baking through approachable recipes with a touch of something extra — the kind of small details that turn homemade treats into bakery-worthy desserts.
Here, you’ll find recipes for every level of home baker, from my personal favorite, espresso brownies, to bakery-style blueberry muffins. Most are sweet, some are savory, and all come with my signature Blue Mountain Baker Tips to help you feel confident in the kitchen. My recipes don’t just tell you what to do — they explain why you’re doing it, whether it’s why we are creaming butter and sugar until light and fluffy, or understanding the difference between baking powder and baking soda. My goal is to pass along the tricks I’ve learned as a professional baker so you can create desserts that look (and taste) like they came straight from a bakery.
My Baking Journey
Growing up, I always had a passion for creating. It started with making birthday cakes for family and friends, and before long, I became the “resident baker” — in charge of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving and desserts for every celebration.
That little hobby turned into something more when I graduated in 2018 with a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. From there, I went straight into the industry, working in bakeries all around Asheville, NC. Each bakery taught me something new — from laminated pastries and cake decorating to building macaron towers. Over time, I blended those professional techniques with the more relaxed, cozy style of baking I love at home.
Blue Mountain Baker is the culmination of those experiences: a mix of professional skill and an easygoing approach. Baking shouldn’t feel intimidating. Even a misshapen sourdough loaf that’s a little extra toasty is still delicious (just call it rustic and people will love it!). My recipes are here to walk you through the process, encourage you to make them your own, and remind you that baking doesn’t have to be perfect to be joyful.
